About

Hi, I’m Jason Hakala! I’m an award-winning Korean-American filmmaker and motion designer. I was born in Hawai’i and now call Seattle home.

I’m a Co-Founder and Head of Production at Cut.com, an online publication with over 30 million subscribers across social channels. Before that, I was the art director at Super Frog Saves Tokyo, a creative agency. My work has been featured in places like TIME, AdAge, Vice, The Atlantic, and National Geographic.

When I’m not working, I love trail running, cycling, and exploring new places with my family. I have two kids and a big-hearted Portuguese water dog named Jorge. Fun fact: In 2012, I proposed to my wife Stella from space—using an iPhone, a GoPro, and a weather balloon—and the video even made it onto Australian news!
